COMMON BIRDS OF THE NORTHWEST ARCTIC KOTZEBUE AREA

With the variety of habitats found in northwestern Alaska, there is a unique opportunity to view over 180 species and subspecies of birds that utilize these habitats. The birds found here are either resident or migratory birds coming to the area to breed, nest, or feed. Many of the migratory birds start to arrive in late-April, with peak spring migration in late-May. Some of these birds migrate from as-far south as South America and Antarctic. By late August, many of the birds are already migrating south.
